Crew Spotlight: Austin

Bio

Austin has been a part of a majority of the major events in Millennial Motorings history. He helped me learn Photoshop and had a hand in designing the V1 slap, as well as assisting with a couple other Mill-Mot designs. He was part of the production crew for ‘Freedom’ along with being one of the people interviewed for the documentary. He was the one who captured the first moments of the IS300 on coilovers, and has helped expand upon video ideas and editing tips and tricks. He has not only been a major contributor in some projects, but has always been a big supporter of the videos, pictures, and designs I make. He constantly pushes the envelope with his own work, BRAWLERS WORLD, and inspires me to create better and more personal content.

Now of course, this is a car-centered brand, we have to talk about Austins cars! Austin and I met in highschool, I was a senior and he was a freshman, so it wasn’t until a few years into our friendship that he got his first car. That car, that he still has today, is a white 1992 Nissan 240SX Convertible. At the time S-chassis were still relatively cheap, even so, I remember that he got a lot of flak for getting a convertible. It didn't bother him though, he had a 240sx! He ran it hard in the canyons, the 4-speed auto was surprisingly compliant and did the job just fine. The one thing that held him back was the stock shocks and springs. Before he got suspension mods for the car, he got a beautiful set of white Advan VS6’s. Once he got the DMAX coilovers for the car, that changed everything, he got so much faster, and couldn’t stop driving. He would do multiple canyon runs a night, just going back and forth, with Josh and his S14. They were one of the fastest pairs of drivers on Bouquet and Spunky.

The S13 is how everyone in the SCV scene (of 2015-2018) identified Austin, but it was those closest to him that knew he wanted an AE86 more than anything. And no, not because of Inital D. It had always been one of his favorite cars, going all the way back to playing it in NFS: Underground 2 and Gran Turismo 3. He finally got his first (of 3) AE86’s in 2016, it was a GT-S Coupe that suffered from quite a lot of issues (too many to name), and it didn’t really run all that well...not much at all actually. On top of that, he didn’t get to keep the car long because the previous owner had some financial issues they needed to resolve ….....but that’s a story for another time.

His 2nd AE86 was another coupe, but this one was a red SR5. Unlike his first 86, this one was in amazing condition, straight body, clean interior, and most importantly, this one ran. Okay, yeah it had the carbureted 4AC and a 3-speed automatic, but it was an 86 that was pretty mint, a car he drove everyday and could enjoy. One step closer to his AE86 dreams. Finally, after years of searching, the one 86 that everyone wants, came into his life, a GT-S hatch. This one is definitely the roughest looking 86 he has owned, but 3rd times the charm. It was owned by a fellow enthusiast who had done some key mods to it back in the day. Austin is continuing to build the car and has already done a major portion of the suspension work that he wanted to do on the car. Baby steps, but in no time Austin and this 86 Hatch will be attacking the canyons.

The last car to mention is the Lotus Seven. His dad picked up this car a number years back and it has been a canyon killer and track day car ever since. The engine screams all the way to 8,000rpm. It's super light and nimble, it just thrives in the corners. The S13 taught Austin the road, the Lotus has taught him the absolute limit. He truly became one with that little machine and it has made him an amazing driver. Analog cars are what he knows best, and the Lotus is the epitome of just that… analog.

Austin is an extremely talented individual who has been a personal inspiration and a huge supporter. I'm thankful to be able to call him one of my best friends. I am excited to see how his S13 and AE86 evolve, we will definitely be documenting the journey here on Millennial Motoring!

Be sure to give him a follow on socials!
