Rosy

Rosy has a Love for small Japanese cars, with an emphasis on Toyota’s. She grew up learning from her dad and brother. Currently, she has quite the 3 car solution: ND2-RF Miata, ZZW30 MR-2, and an FJ Cruiser

Growing up, Rosy’s dad worked in various auto shops. When she and her brother were little, their dad would often take them to these shops where they would hang out and watch their dad wrench on cars. Rosy’s love for cars really started to accelerate in Middle School riding with her brother, John, in his Z32 300ZX and occasionally in his S13 Hatch. Witnessing her dad wrench her whole life and watching her brother learn and grow his passion for cars was really inspiring for her. Over time as her brother would fix up his Z32, make changes, upgrades, and small tweaks - it showed Rosy what was possible and how you can improve the car. And seeing that car become show car quality and at the same time be driven hard in the canyons taught her that these machines have more than just one purpose. She’s followed in their footsteps with the cars she now owns.

Rosy’s first car was almost something completely different, initially she wasn’t looking for a Miata at all. In fact, she originally was shopping for C7 Corvette’s when she came across the 2020 MX-5 RF while looking at used cars one evening around midnight. She went to her brother and said “what if we go tomorrow and pick up this car. I am serious. I am going to call it Matilda the Miata.” The Polymetal Grey Metallic over Red combo was attractive, and after searching for Miata reviews on YouTube, she had found one with an identical spec car. The overall driving experience that was portrayed by the review was attractive to her, and she thought that commuting in a convertible would be a fun experience. The very next day she and her brother went to the dealership that had the lightly used Miata and bought the car. There was only one problem……… Rosy didn’t know how to drive stick. So, after a couple weekends, she became confident enough to drive around on her own. Maltilda the Miata is currently the daily driver and the fun canyon car. Rosy has thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful driving experience with this car, and aside from the inconvenient lack of space: “I could not have gone with a better choice for my first car for myself. It very much suits me, because its a very good car to enjoy sunshine in”

After getting the ND2 Miata RF, Rosy wanted a 2nd car to spread the miles around because of her long commute. At first, she was thinking about an NA Miata as it would be fun to have the first generation and current generation Miata’s, thinking this would be a fun two car solution because as we all know - Miata Is Always The Answer. Her brother had suggested a 3rd generation Toyota MR-2 Spyder, he may have been a bit biased since he already had one. Rosy went for a ride in it and fell in love with its character. The way that the mid engine car handled was completely different to anything else she had ever experienced. That ride had exposed her to a completely different world of cars that she did not know was out there. Now that she had decided on a ZZW30 MR-2, the search began. It did take a while to find the right car, because post-pandemic the market for them had become inflated as the ZZW30 had started to become more desirable. Her dad spotted a silver example at an old friends house in Little Rock amongst a small collection of cars being stored there at the time. The car was in terrible condition: “and my dad and I had gaslit each other into believing it was less work than it was.” After buying the car, they towed it home with her moms Nissan X-Terra. Dads plan was: “we work on this thing every weekend until it is done.” And that is exactly what they did, in total the restoration took approximately 6 months.

After a couple of years of enjoying this fine pair of convertibles, the desire for a larger vehicle grew. Something about the modern Toyota FJ Cruisers was so appealing. The retro look, the overall size of the truck, and its offroad capabilities was something Rosy began to yearn for. After a year of searching, she found one literally around the corner from her house, parked outside of the local gym with a for sale sign on it. After a brief negotiation, the 2007 FJ Cruiser was hers. It will need a little work to be 100% sorted, but the deal was too good to pass up. Within the next few months, this FJ will be ready to rock!
